Rescuing 1 Million Bees
#WMBEE
Warner Music Group is partnering with Heifer International to launch #WMBee, an initiative to rebuild bee populations in Mexico, Nicaragua, and Honduras.
The Buzz on Bees
Have you eaten a blueberry, tomato or almond this week?
It’s likely that wouldn’t have been possible without a bee.
Bee Devastation
Over the last three decades, pesticides, climate change, and parasites have caused the loss of millions of bees around the world. Honeybees are essential to healthy crops, and their rapid decline threatens global food security.
In 2020, Hurricane Eta demolished much of the bee populations in Nicaragua, Honduras, and Mexico, affecting key crops such as coffee, mangos, beans, corn, and rice.
The Buzz on Bees
Did you know that honeybees are the only insect that creates food consumed by humans?
#WMBEE
With WMG’s support, Heifer International will plant pollinator gardens, create new hives, and provide training and education.
Overall, this initiative will increase bee populations by one million bees, while creating local beekeeping jobs, helping the environment, and boosting local agriculture in Mexico, Nicaragua, and Honduras.
The Buzz on Bees
Many think that bee colonies are a monarchy because of the queen bee but they actually operate as democracies, voting on new nest sites by performing intricate dances.
Heifer
International
Heifer International is providing tools and resources for farmers and to grow and scale their businesses, and training more women to become beekeepers, so they can achieve economic independence. As the bees pollinate plants, farmers see their harvests double or triple. Plus, the beekeepers can harvest honey during the non-growing season to earn extra income. Learn More
